Family Support Services

Eloise ClarkFamily Support Services (FSS) is an innovative and exciting program that provides individualized services to people with disabilities and their families as determined by the families.  Services may include respite care, family enrichment services, transportation, and homemaker services.

Temporary Respite Care is support provided to individuals in their home, the home of a FSS worker, or licensed community home.  Respite care can be a “home away from home” and may be used on a temporary basis or for extended periods of time.

In November of 2002, Prospectus Berco expanded and improved respite services by opening a brand new, state of the art respite home in Sinking Spring, PA.  The new ranch-style home includes wheel-chair accessibility and an open floor plan.  Other features include a lift system and sprinkler system.  Respite Home Services are available to three people at a time.  The Department of Public Welfare licenses the Respite Home.

LifeSharing through Family Living is a program in which adults with disabilities share in the joys and responsibilities of family life.  Interested providers are screened by our professional staff and then are matched with people who express their wish to live with a family.  Currently, thirteen families and seventeen individuals participate in the LifeSharing through Family Living Program.  The success of this program is evidenced by the fact that some families have been sharing their lives for seven or more years.

Foster Care places children with caring, qualified families on a temporary or long-term basis.  Prospective families are matched with children based on capacity and the children's needs. Family providers are licensed and receive 6 hours of annual training in child-specific topics.  This program is funded by Berks County Children and Youth and Lancaster County Children & Youth Services.

Temporary Group Respite is a Tuesday evening program from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Activities include ceramics classes, arts and crafts, games, movies, dances and trips to local restaurants.
